About Us
Dove Creek Ambulance District offers over 60 years of in-hospital and pre-hospital experience and care. We partner with quality organizations like the National Registry of EMTs, the American Heart Association, the American Safety and Health Institute, and the Colorado Community College System, which includes Pueblo Community College, to offer excellent educational opportunities to help meet the needs of our employees and community.
DCAD directly supports the Dolores County Search and Rescue Team, the Emergency Manager, the Dolores County Sheriff's Office, and the Dove Creek Fire Department. In addition, DCAD supports and works closely with the Pleasent View Volunteer Fire Department, the Egnar Fire Department, the San Miguel County Sheriff's Office, and the Southwest Health System EMS. Providing and receiving mutual aid from surrounding agencies is essential for optimum emergency coverage.
The district covers the Western portion of Dolores County as a part of our service plan created in 2016. DCAD staffs one of two 24-hour ambulances at the ALS (Advance Life Support) Level. In 2023, the ambulance ran 256 calls for service and transported over 118 patients. The two hospitals the service transports to are San Juan Hospital, a Level IV Trauma Center and Critical Access hospital in Monticello, Utah, and Southwest Memorial Hospital, a Level IV Trauma Center and Critical Access hospital in Cortez, Colorado. As the district is a Rural Frontier ambulance service, it is no surprise that the service puts over 10,000 miles on the trucks and spends over an hour on each call.
